Her work includes developing policies to promote community preparedness and resilience. She is a part of several national response teams, including the Department of Health and Human Services’ National Disaster Medical System, and has been activated for various events including in a preparedness role for the 2017 Presidential Inauguration and in response to disasters such as hurricanes.

Carol J. Boyd, Ph.D., RN, FIAAN, FAAN

Drugs of abuse, prescription medication misuse among youth and emerging adults, medical marijuana use, opioid misuse and abuse, substance use among sexual minority subgroups.Boyd can discuss prescription drug adherence and misuse with a focus on adolescent and emerging adult behaviors. She is also focused on substance abuse in understudied populations such as sexual minorities, drug users and those living in low-resource communities, domestically and internationally.

Laura Gultekin, PhD, FNP-BC
Area of Expertise:
Health disparities, family homelessness, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and trauma-informed careGultekin can discuss the social and environmental inequities that influence health outcomes across populations. One focus area is on understanding family pathways into housing instability and homelessness in order to reduce the risk of future homelessness. In addition, Gultekin examines the impact of adverse childhood experiences on future health and well-being of children and their families, with a particular focus on how trauma/violence can cause long-lasting negative health effects. Gultekin and UM colleagues are developing standards that promote a trauma-informed approach to health care that supports individuals and families who have experienced life-altering exposures to trauma and violence.

Lisa Kane Low, PhD, CNM, FACNM, FAAN
Area of Expertise:
Childbirth practices and outcomes, labor and delivery, midwiferyKane Low can discuss best practice in maternity care to promote optimal outcomes during childbirth, including centering the families desires and options for a variety of models and sites for maternity care. She has expertise in national quality improvement efforts to reduce primary cesarean births and postpartum hemorrhage as well as promote healthy physiological birth processes. She also has specific expertise in pelvic floor health related to childbirth and across a woman’s lifespan including preventing prolapses, incontinence and pelvic floor injuries. Kane Low can also discuss the role and benefits of midwives and doulas as part of the maternal health care system.

Michelle L. Munro-Kramer, Ph.D., CNM, FNP-BC

Reproductive health, sexual violence with a focus on university campuses, gender-based violence, trauma-informed care, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs)Dr. Munro-Kramer can discuss the potentially long-lasting implications of trauma on physical and mental health. She has a strong focus on supporting sexual assault survivors, as well as creating interventions aimed at reducing assaults and gender-based violence. She’s actively involved in with the Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center (SAPAC), including adapting the “Relationship Remix” program that teaches incoming students about healthy relationships and giving consent. That program and a web-based app are being adapted for additional audiences with a focus on African universities.

Michelle Pardee, DNP, FNP-BC

Adolescent health, human trafficking, interprofessional education and practicePardee can discuss adolescent health including a focus on runaway, homeless and traumatized young adults. She can also discuss human trafficking, ranging from identification, treatment and referral of victims. In addition, Pardee can discuss the benefits and strategies of universities adapting an interprofessional education model so students of various health disciplines such as nursing, medicine, pharmacy and dentistry can learn about each other and how to work together as a team.

Stephen Strobbe, Ph.D., RN, PMHCNS-BC

Addiction, mental health, psychiatric and addictions nursing, substance useStrobbe can discuss substance use and related disorders, including prevention, treatment, and recovery. A current focus is on the evidence-based approach of screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment (SBIRT) for substance use. Strobbe is also an advocate for increasing a treatment-based approach, instead of punishment, for nurses and nursing students with substance use disorder.

Women’s body image and sexual health, midwifery, global maternal health, optimizing birth outcomesZielinski can discuss women’s health issues including sexual health, pregnancy and birth outcomes. Her research on body image addresses concerns before, during and after pregnancy. She has expertise in international women’s health issues and has led numerous training and other educational programs to improve maternal health in resource-poor countries.
