Dr. Donna Marvicsin has been caring for children in pediatric endocrinology since 1995, and her overarching scholarship focus is on the parenting of children with type 1 diabetes. In her past research, Dr. Marvicsin has examined the relationships between maternal environment (e.g. child behavior and coping resources), diabetes self-efficacy, diabetes management behaviors, and child glycemic control. Her current research includes an examination of a parenting intervention designed to improve metabolic control in the pre-school population. Building off of and utilizing her expertise, Dr. Marvicsin is the program co-coordinator for the Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program at U-M School of Nursing.

Teaching

Dr. Marvicsin has taught the didactic portion of the undergraduate pediatric courses as well as coordinated the clinical faculty. She also teaches the chronic care course and final capstone course for the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner graduate students. As an expert in pediatrics, she believes her role is to model for student the complex ways of thinking necessary to success in the field so that they can develop the same skills as future professionals. Overall, she values students who are actively engaged in the process of learning and who are willing to critically apply knowledge of the unique needs of infants, children, and adolescents to their nursing care.
