A gift to the endowment is a gift that lives forever.

Endowments are critical to the financial strength of the University of Michigan School of Nursing and provide support in perpetuity.

Neal Hautz - McLelland Memorial Scholarship recipientLike so many at U-M, Neal found a community in football. Playing in high school, he built a deep sense of purpose from being part of a team and uniting with others around a common goal of victory.

In his junior year, when a serious injury ended Neal’s season, it was a caring group of nurses who helped him heal both physically and emotionally—sparking his interest in the profession.

When his acceptance letter to U-M arrived, Neal quickly realized he needed financial help to make his dream possible. Thankfully, the McLelland Memorial Scholarship from the University of Michigan School of Nursing removed that financial barrier, and Neal became a Wolverine.

Now, he’s refocusing his team mentality from winning games to saving lives.

The McLelland Memorial Scholarship was established by Michael (MBA ’79) and Nancy (BS ’75, MBA ’79) McLelland to honor Mike’s mother, Betty McLelland, and Nancy’s sister, Kathleen Green (BSN ’74), for their love and dedication to the nursing profession.

The scholarship provides opportunities for future generations of nursing students to follow in their footsteps and carry forward their legacy of compassion, excellence and service.
