Shereen Patten’s has been dedicated to both patient care and nursing education.  She has served as ICU Nurse Educator in which she developed and led evidence-based programs to enhance critical care competence and participated in clinical quality research (i.e., iatrogenic blood loss, pressure ulcer reduction) to improve patient outcomes. As an Advance Practice Provider, Shereen Patten is known for her exceptional clinical skills in performing ICU bedside procedures, management of mechanically ventilated patients, responding to emergenices, and providing compassionate patient-centered care. As an educator, Shereen Patten functions as clinical nurse faculty for undergraduate students, as well as coursework facilitator.  This involves creating an engaged and supportive learning environment for students where student-instructor partnership is cultivated in the learning experience to achieve competence.  These experiences reinforced her commitment to bridging clinical expertise with academic instruction to provide students with education rooted in real-world application.

Teaching

Shereen Patten has been integral in the success of progressing undergraduate nursing students. She has served as clinical faculty of record for a variety of nursing classes, including foundational course in nursing, med-surg I, and med-surg II.  She has also served as primary faculty for Health Assessment.

Shereen Patten believes that nursing students play a role far beyond bedside care—they are future leaders and agents of change in improving healthcare outcomes. She believes one powerful way to drive that change is by equipping students with a strong foundation in research. As the primary faculty of record for the Nursing Capstone course in which students are to research and develop a clinical quality improvement project, Shereen Patten has inspired undergraduate nurses to think critically and envision themselves in leadership roles within the profession.
