Dr. Sloan focused his DNP project on identifying ways to better teach clinical judgment skills to undergraduate nursing students. His interests lie in standardizing teaching practices while maintaining individual teaching styles to enhance NCLEX successes. Clinically, Dr. Sloan has experience with end-of-life patients and is interested in their care and support of their families.

Teaching

Dr. Sloan has experience teaching undergraduate psychiatric and community health clinicals, as well as, health assessment lab. He has also spent time precepting junior-level nurses on a medical-surgical floor. He firmly believes that the most effective learning environment is one that prioritizes a sense of safety and comfort. Dr. Sloan encourages a culture where it's acceptable to not have all the answers and to make mistakes as long as it leads to learning and growth. This belief reassures students and encourages them to take risks in their education. Once students feel secure in their learning environment, instructors can guide them to enhance their critical thinking skills.
