Dr. Drummond utilizes her unique expertise as a FNP and CNM to investigate the intersection of chronic disease and reproductive health. Her focus is on disease processes which may appear for the first time in pregnancy including hypertension, diabetes, and cardiac disease. Of particular interest is the influence of social media on health education around these conditions. As a DNP prepared scholar, Dr. Drummond is actively engaged in quality improvement evaluation projects at Michigan Medicine and Trinity Health Ann Arbor. She works to improve maternal and infant health at the state level with the Michigan Affiliate of the Alliance for Innovation in Maternal Health and at the national level with the National Alliance for Innovation in Maternal Health and the Center for Disease Control.

Teaching

Dr. Drummond teaches widely in the Nurse Midwifery and Family Nurse Practitioner programs. She has created new lectures on chronic disease conditions including diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. These lectures draw on a comprehensive lifespan approach to prevention and treatment of these conditions with an emphasis on providing care that is patient-centered and culturally relevant.

In response to the inequities in health outcomes in maternal and infant health, Dr. Drummond has created course content across each of the midwifery core classes that helps students understand the driving forces of inequities, integrate evidence-based care to reduce these disparities, and to develop themselves as leaders able to advocate for equitable care in their future practices.

Dr. Drummond has mentored students across the digital and in-person family nurse practitioner and midwifery programs. She has served as a committee member and site mentor for students in the BSN to DNP program and the post masters DNP programs. She has also mentored students pursuing undergraduate honors theses and teacher certificated in nursing education.
