Dr. Franklin’s research focuses on improving self-management in chronic cardiovascular patients. She is a board-certified acute care nurse practitioner with over 30 years of experience managing cardiovascular disease in multiple care settings. Dr. Franklin has both quantitative and qualitative experience through previous research. Dr. Franklin supervises Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students in their quality improvement projects in diverse community and acute care settings. 

Current Research Grants and Programs

  • Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) (2024 - 2029), Improving access and adherence for disease prevention for rural-dwelling individuals with ASCVD, Arruda-Olson, Foss, and Patil (MPIs). Role: Co-Investigator

Teaching

Dr. Franklin teaches in the Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner program at the Master’s and Doctoral levels. She has over two decades of experience as an academic nurse educator and faculty member teaching across all levels from undergraduate to doctoral students. Dr. Franklin also teaches in the primary care graduate nurse practitioner programs and serves as residency faculty for Doctor of Nursing Practice Students.
