Using qualitative and mixed methods, Dr. Strauch’s research examines the impact of trauma among adults in primary care, with specific focus on clinical communication and documentation, social determinants of health, and health outcomes. In addition to her trauma-based research, Dr. Strauch explores critical aspects of nursing workforce development and capacity building in underserved communities. As a seasoned advanced practice nurse, Dr. Strauch has leveraged her experiences working with urban underserved populations to develop and pilot collaborative care models involving nursing-dental partnerships and the integration of behavioral health in primary care.
Current Research Grants and Programs

Teaching
Since 2011, Dr. Strauch has taught in a variety of capacities, primarily at the graduate nursing level. Previously, she served as a faculty member in several didactic and clinical courses in the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and regularly precepted primary care nurse practitioner students.
Drawing on her experiences as an advanced practice provider, Dr. Strauch has developed didactic content focused on the provision of primary care services to vulnerable and underserved populations through the lens of health equity, which include interprofessional simulations that emphasize social determinants of health and integrated behavioral health in primary care. Dr. Strauch embraces collaborative care models and has extended her teaching and mentorship across health disciplines. In a prior role, Dr. Strauch worked to develop a framework for interdisciplinary education and training between nursing and dentistry that included a novel teledental program.
