The VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System (VAAAHS) is currently recruiting student nurses for the Department of Veterans Affairs Learning Opportunities Residency (VALOR) program beginning May of 2017.
This program provides opportunities for outstanding students to develop competencies in clinical nursing while at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System. Opportunities for learning include didactic experiences, competency-based clinical practice with a qualified Registered Nurse preceptor, simulation-based learning, and participation in nursing-focused clinical conferences.This is a time-limited paid training position.
To be eligible candidates must:
- Have completed the final semester or quarter of the junior year in a Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or a Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing accredited baccalaureate or generic equivalent nursing program.
- Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (official transcript must be provided).
- Students must be able to complete 400 hours during the summer and may continue during their senior academic year on a part-time basis to complete a maximum of 800 hours as a Nursing VALOR student at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System.
- Be a United States citizen and meet physical examination standards at the time of entry into the VALOR program.
- Not have a service obligation to any Federal, state, or private institution. Recipients of any Federal scholarships are ineligible for the Nursing VALOR program.

- The Dean/Director of the school of nursing must submit a letter of nomination and recommendation by COB February 17, 2017, to Pamela Weber, MS, RN, Associate Chief Nurse of Education/Director of Simulation Center. The letter should include the following: verification of enrollment as a full-time student (as defined by the school); projected successful completion of the junior year by May 2017 and anticipated graduation within 1-year after entry into the Nursing VALOR program.
