Dr. Jennifer Riske is a Family Nurse Practitioner who embeds her clinical practice in areas of decreased access to provide care to underserved individuals. Dr. Riske spent over 15 years as an oncology nurse, noting first hand the need for preventative screenings and the disparities in access to care for the underserved. As such, her scholarship focuses on improving access to care, overcoming barriers, and promoting the health and well-being of primary care patients.
Teaching
Dr. Riske has always enjoyed keeping up to date with EBP and disseminating these techniques to her nurse colleagues. She received her Certificate in Nurse Education while completing her doctoral work at UMSN. Prior to joining the UMSN faculty, her teaching experience included second-degree nursing med surg clinicals and Science Learning Circles for Advanced Pharmacology.
As UMSN faculty, Dr. Riske has taught in health assessment, med surg clinical rotations, population health clinical rotations, and family nurse practitioner clinical rotations, as well as guest lecturing for nurse practitioner courses. Strong clinical skills are the backbone of nursing and she enjoys watching the students put all the pieces together and gain confidence in their skills.
