Helen Bauer has focused her nursing career on critical care nursing especially in the areas of neuroscience and trauma. During her time as Captain in the Air Force she was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base. Upon completing her post master’s Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) certificate at Georgetown University, she continued her work in critical care nursing of patients undergoing neurosurgery at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. Upon her return to Michigan, Ms. Bauer has worked as a neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner in the ICU of UMHS.

Teaching

Helen Bauer has given guest lectures at the University of Michigan School of Nursing on head computed topography (CT) scan interpretation. In the past, she taught neuroscience and critical care classes, as well as neuroscience review classes for the American Association of Critical Care Nurses certification exam (CCRN). She has been a preceptor for several UMSN graduate students and plans to continue working with graduate students in a preceptor role in the future.
