Conference travel funding

Funding available to BSN, MSN, and DNP students:

  • Funds to support travel to conferences are available to students who have been accepted to present at a regional, national or international nursing meeting or conference. For additional information, including eligibility criteria or to apply for this opportunity, please use the UMSN Conference Travel Award application.

Funding available to Ph.D. students only:

  • Ph.D. students who have been accepted to present at a regional, national or international meeting or conference, first apply for a Rackham Conference Travel Grant. Rackham students may only receive one Rackham Conference Travel Grant per year (July-June). Should you be accepted to present at a second conference or meeting during that timeframe, you may be eligible to apply for a UMSN Conference Travel Award.
  • Ph.D. students who wish to attend a conference or meeting in order to gain valuable experience for educational and/or networking purposes only can apply for a Ph.D. Conference Travel Award. Students should consult with their faculty mentor to identify a conference in which their attendance could be "career-launching" and are not intended for cases in which a Ph.D. student has been selected to present at the meeting or conference. For additional information, including eligibility criteria or to apply for this opportunity, please use the Ph.D. Conference Travel Award Application.

Non-traditional experiences

During the course of your academic career at the School of Nursing, you may have the opportunity to enrich your learning experience by participating in non-traditional classroom courses or programs where international travel is necessary. The school recognizes the additional financial expense associated with this type of experience and funding may be available to help cover some of these costs. See the GO Student Scholarship and note that other university resources may also be able to help.

Awards for Excellence in Nursing

During the annual convocation ceremony, the School of Nursing celebrates our students’ academic accomplishments by presenting Awards for Excellence in Nursing. These awards are initiated through faculty nominations and presented to individuals who have demonstrated scholarly excellence or exemplary community service. Each recipient will be individually recognized during the ceremonial program as well as commemorated on a plaque prominently displayed at the School of Nursing. These prestigious awards may be accompanied by a monetary gift and/or certificate of recognition.
