Foundations of Scientific Inquiry: Observational Research --- This PhD-level course aims to provide fundamental principles of research design and methods in the health sciences, with a particular emphasis on observational research. The course will provide an overview of a range of study designs, including but not limited to cross-sectional studies, longitudinal studies (trend, panel, and cohort), and case-control studies. It will also introduce students to quantitative survey and qualitative interview data collection methodologies. Students will develop enhanced capacity to understand and evaluate study designs and methodologies from the health and social sciences, in order to be critical consumers of research and engaged participants in scientific discourse. Throughout the course, issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion that underpin health sciences research will be emphasized.
