NURS 666 - Advanced Primary Care Nursing of Chronic Illness in Adults and their Families

Prerequisite: Successful completion of N566; completion of Pharmacology 620 and prior or concurrent enrollment in Pharmacology 621.

Credits: 3 - 6

This course further develops and broadens students’ primary care knowledge, skills, and clinical judgment. Specific content relates to the primary health care needs of individuals and their families in screening for, preventing, and/or managing common chronic conditions. Content addresses the impact of the chronic illness on the course of the individual’s health and disease states, the family constellation and use of personal and health resources. Issues of age, gender, race, genetics, and sexuality are addressed within the context of family and community. Uses of information technology and community resources are integrated to promote positive adaptation to the impact and sequelae of the chronic illness.
