NURS 552 - Pediatric Acute Care Advanced Management II

Prerequisite: N503, N502, PHARMACY620 & PHARMACY621, N523, N553, N541, N550, N551, and N541 or permission of instructor. Corequisite: 637 or permission of instructor

Pediatric Acute Care Advanced Management II is the second in a series of two courses. This course prepares students to address the physiologic and psychological needs of infants, children, and adolescents with acute, critical and chronic health conditions. This course builds on knowledge and skills from Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Pediatric Acute Care Advanced Management I and other courses. The content of this course will include complex diseases including multisystem disorders. Evidence-based, advanced practice nursing interventions consistent with the CNS and NP roles will be discussed. The focus will be the development of increasingly complex clinical judgment and critical thinking necessary to care for infants, children and adolescent with acute, critical and chronic health conditions. Issues of age, culture, race, gender, genetics, psychosocial well-being, and socioeconomic status will be addressed. Students will utilize conceptual and theoretical frameworks and evidence-based knowledge to develop an advanced practice management plan of care to address the complex care needs of pediatric patients. II Version Date: 6/21/18 and treatment modalities will be expanded upon to provide a comprehensive understanding of care commonly provided to pediatric patients with acute, critical, and chronic illness.
