Important Email Change for School of Nursing Faculty and Staff

Beginning on Thursday, November 21, 2019, all users of Outlook connecting from outside the Michigan Medicine network will be required to use the UMHS VPN Client.

WHAT WILL CHANGE FOR OUTLOOK CLIENT USERS?

If you currently use the Outlook email client to access your Michigan Medicine email, you will need to login to the UMHS VPN client (which requires authentication via DUO) prior to logging into Outlook. Please refer to the documentation on how to login to the VPN client.

WHAT WILL CHANGE FOR OUTLOOK WEB ACCESS USERS?

This change will not affect you if you currently use Outlook Web Access (OWA email.med.umich.edu) to access your Michigan Medicine email. You should continue to access your Michigan Medicine email as usual.

Outlook Web Access

WHAT WILL CHANGE FOR EMAIL ON MOBILE DEVICES?

This change will not affect email on mobile devices. You will still be required to use Intelligent Hub to access your email on your mobile devices. You should continue to access your Michigan Medicine email on your mobile device as usual.

WHY IS THIS CHANGE OCCURING?

In order to mitigate security risks and vulnerabilities exposed by a breach that resulted in the possible exposure of the health information of 5500 patients, Michigan Medicine will require the use of the UMHS Cisco Anyconnect VPN client when using Outlook from outside the Michigan Medicine network starting Thursday, November 21, 2019.
