Dr. Strodtman's program of research focuses on addressing palliative and end-of-life care issues. More recently, she has investigated providing a "Good Death" from an interdisciplinary care team perspective, a project that resulted in three educational video productions. In addition, Dr. Strodtman has conducted a study of "Family Satisfaction with End-of-Life Care" which involved surveying and interviewing families of patients who have died in intensive care units settings; her results indicated that there is much to be improved in quality of communication and care with families during palliative and end-of-life care.

Teaching
Over thirty plus years of college teaching, Dr. Strodtman has taught all levels of students and a extensive variety of course topics ranging from fundamental courses such as N122: Nursing as a Societal and Interpersonal Profession to specific graduate-level courses such as N622: Nursing Intervention: Dignified Dying. In addition to facilitating her own courses, Dr. Strodtman regularly guest lectures in other nursing courses as well as in courses belonging to other disciplines (e.g. medicine, social work, public health, cultural anthropology). She also advises masters students on their research and scholarly projects and has served on doctoral dissertation committees.
