Teaching
Dr. Wismont has been involved with both the traditional and second career undergraduate nursing programs over the span of her 22 years with the U-M School of Nursing and she is currently responsible for the maternity nursing course in the traditional program. Dr. Wismont believes that while teaching facilitates learning, learning is an participatory process engaged in by students and, to that end, the components of her courses are structured in ways that best promote active learning opportunities. Didactically, she accomplishes this through scenario participation and small group work. Clinically, in union with unit based clinical mentors, Dr. Wismont facilitates student development in the areas of clinical competence as well as professional identity through the focused application of theory to clinical situations and ever increasing autonomy for patient care. Being a catalyst for growth and then seeing that growth actualized continues to bring Dr. Wismont joy and satisfaction.
