Judith Payne's overall program of research focuses on symptom management in oncology patients. Her current research focuses on sleep disturbances, fatigue, and inflammatory markers in women with breast cancer. More broadly, she also focuses on translational science, evidence-based practice implementation, and cancer survivorship. Dr. Payne has received research funding from NIH, NINR, the Oncology Nursing Foundation, Sigma Theta Tau, and OrthoBiotech. She has served as coordinator of the Oncology Nursing Society's Advanced Nursing Research Special Interest Group and as ad hoc member of the Scientific and Research Advocacy Subgroup of the ONS Research Advosory Panel. Dr. Payne holds advanced certification as an oncology nurse.
Teaching
Dr. Payne relies on mentoring in her approach to teaching students and staff. She helps students prioritize patients' care problems and develop critical thinking skills and self-confidence. Dr. Payne believes in modeling therapeutic communication skills and professional behaviors to help students and staff achieve thier goals.
