Philosophical Influences and Theory Building in Nursing

This course provides the philosophical and theoretical foundation essential for the development of the scientist in nursing and the health sciences. Students will explore and critique philosophies regarding the nature of truth, evidence, scientific paradigms, methods and measures of scientific discovery. Students will actively engage in intellectual discourse with faculty and peers regarding the systematic evaluation, critique and analysis of nursing science. To this end, students will synthesize empirical observations and relevant theoretical and research literature to develop and evaluate a theoretical product.
