Intrapartum, Postpartum, and Newborn Care

Prerequisite(s): NURS 540, NURS 542, NURS 546 and permission of instructor

Provides the knowledge needed for the care and management of the uncomplicated mother and baby through intrapartum and the immediate postpartum period. The student is expected to screen for common complications and manage selected emergency situations. Assessment and care for the newborn in transition from an intra-uterine to extra-uterine environments is included. Parent-infant attachments is included, with promotion of childbearing education to families of varying cultural origins.
