The Social Costs of Falling Short of Gender Equity in High School

Guest Speaker: Don Sabo of D'Youville College, Women's Sports Foundation

Professor Sabo will show that gender inequality in high-‐school sports is linked to an array of social costs related to physical activity, educational achievement, public health, teen pregnancy prevention, and delinquency. He will review some key historical trends in the provision of athletic opportunities to US high-‐school girls and boys and discuss some regional and institutional correlates of gender inequalities in US interscholastic sports.
